Newspaper Notice - The Late Joseph Morpaw.

The late Joseph Morpaw, whose death was announced in our last issue, was born at Glen Walter in 1841. He was married in 1861 to Mary Ann, daughter of the late Louis Lalonde, who survives him. He lived at Glen Walter until 23 years ago when he removed with his family to Grant's Corners. He passed away on Friday, April 27th, after a lingering illness. The funeral took place on Sunday morning to St. Andrew's Church and cemetery, the Requiem Mass being celebrated on Monday morning. Over eighty carriages were in the cortege following his remains, the large assemblage showing the high esteem in which he was held. The pall-bearers were his three sons, Louis, WIlliam John, and Charles Albert, two son-in-laws, Joseph McCormick and William Morpaw, and nephew, Joseph Morpaw. Besides his widow he leaves three sons and four daughters - Louis Morpaw, of St. Andrew's; William John Morpaw, Helena, NY; Charles Albert, on the homestead; Mrs. Jos McCormick, Cornwall; Miss Julia Ann, Margaret Ann and Agnes, on the homestead.

In the 1871, Canada census, Joseph is listed as being of French origin, a Roman Catholic and a cooper, living in Charlottenburg Township, County of Glengarry.

He learned the trade of cooper from his father Jean-Louis Maurepas. He was born in the vicinity of Glenwalter and lived there until 1883, when he moved to Grant's Corners, in the Township of Cornwall, County of Stormount where he purchased a farm and lived until he died.
